The image above of a potter in a workshop in Ahmedabad, India, arranging earthen lamps used to decorate homes and temples during Diwali, was captured by Amit Dave for Reuters.

He’s one of the travel photographers who, against the odds in 2020, managed to capture some of the beauty that the world has to offer.

Throughout the year, photographers across the globe have brought the world to us, while we’ve been cut off from the great ‘out there’.

Out of the thousands of photos the outlet considered, CNN has whittled them down to a few of their favourites.

We picked eight of those, to share with you.

Armchair travel at its best.

If that wasn’t enough photography to brighten your Monday, check out the talented people vying for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year People’s Choice Award.

I’m particularly fond of the photo of the Asian palm civet kitten.
