Motorists on the N2 on Tuesday morning at around 7:30AM were shocked to see a brazen assault by taxi drivers, during rush hour traffic.
20-year-old Wafeeq Craven says his car was scraped by a taxi that cut in front of him, on the stretch of highway between Bhunga Avenue and Jan Smuts Drive.
According to Craven, when he stepped out of his car an object was thrown at him, before a number of men attacked.
IOL reports:
This led to a confrontation in which Craven, who had been on his way to work, was punched, kicked and stabbed…
His 55-year-old mother, who has been left traumatised by the incident, sustained bruises to her arms and face when she tried to intervene, said Craven…
It was only when one of the taxi drivers pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the cheek, Craven said, when other traffic commuters intervened.
Towards the end of the video below, you can see two men intervene to help Craven:

Craven says that a police van actually drove past the scene, but didn’t stop.
Police are investigating a case of common assault, according to Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk.
Facebook posts suggest that Craven is in hospital, with one showing a bloodied t-shirt he was wearing at the time of the attack.
MayCo member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said that authorities have identified the licence plate numbers of at least two vehicles involved in the incident, with action set to be taken.
