Tiger Woods may have won last year’s Masters, in one of sport’s great comeback stories, but it appears unlikely that he will surpass Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 major wins.
His Augusta success was his 15th major title, and his first major win in 11 years, after battling back from a sex scandal, and then a series of crippling injuries.
Whilst his life story is relatively well-known, Tiger has attempted to keep certain aspects of his life private, and his fellow golfers have been reticent to talk too much about a man who singlehandedly caused the sport’s prize money to skyrocket.
That’s set to change with the release of Tiger, a two-part, four-hour-long docuseries that will air in January on HBO and HBO Max.
More from Golf Week:
Speaking on a podcast back in May, noted journalist Armen Keteyian said that “Tiger Woods,” the New York Times No. 1 best-selling book he co-authored with Jeff Benedict in 2018, is being made into a docuseries…
The documentary is full of never-before-seen footage as well as interviews with former caddie Steve Williams, Sir Nick Faldo, Earl Woods’ friend and biographer, Pete McDaniel, and Rachel Uchitel, the woman at the center of the sex scandal.
HBO says she’s breaking her silence with her first-ever sit-down interview about their relationship.
Uchitel’s interview should certainly make for interesting viewing.
In addition, Keteyian added that other “central figures” in Tiger’s life were interviewed for the docuseries.
This is the only trailer released thus far:
Tiger is directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Matthew Heineman and Emmy nominee Matthew Hamachek, with Oscar-winner Alex Gibney serving as executive producer.
Let’s hope it delivers on its promise to shed new light on the life of one of sport’s true global superstars.
