Blessing Bveni, the man known as the ‘Table Mountain Killer’, was yesterday found guilty on 10 counts in the Cape Town High Court.
The case against Bveni was strong, with the state outlining how he operated, and credit must be given to SANParks master tracker Sergeant Minye for helping to catch him.
It was alleged that between October 2017 and March 2018, Bveni carried out at least five attacks on the fringes of Table Mountain National Park, focused largely on trails above Kalk Bay, and was responsible for the murders of Doug Notten and Ian McPherson.
Bveni was found guilty of the murder of Notten, as well as McPherson, along with a number of other charges.
Via TimesLIVE, here’s Judge Judith Cloete reading from her 100-page judgment:
Bveni has always maintained that the multiple witnesses who testified against him were lying, as part of his defence, but Cloete wasn’t having it:
“I have come to the conclusion, that on counts one to 10, the accused’s version cannot reasonably, possibly, be true. Indeed it is so improbable that it should be rejected as false beyond reasonable doubt,” read j Cloete…
The judge praised the state witnesses’ credibility after five of the victims from separate incidents pointed out Bveni’s photograph from police photo-identification parades.
Bveni will return to court on January 25 for sentencing arguments, before sentencing is handed down on January 28.
