Can you handle subtitles?
I know that for some people, it’s a deal-breaker.
You’ve been staring at a screen all day for work, and now that you’re doing it in your free time, you’re not exactly keen to concentrate.
Plus it’s tough to aimlessly scroll through Instagram whilst watching a series with subtitles. Yup, we know you’re guilty.
If you don’t mind subtitles, you should first make sure you’ve watched Parasite, the 2020 Oscar winner for Best Picture.
Once you’re done with that, there’s Equinox, a new Danish series coming soon to Netflix.
A quick synopsis via The Verge:
A radio host whose sister disappeared in a bus accident 20 years earlier gets a call on-air from someone who claims he knows what happened. Alternate realities, ya’ll! Equinox is based on the hit Danish podcast Equinox 1985, and both the podcast and the series were created and written by Danish director Tea Lindeburg. Danica Cucic stars in Equinox, a six-part series which hits Netflix December 30th.
The teaser trailer doesn’t give too much away, but it’s enough for some parallels to be drawn:
According to Forbes, the voice on the phone is one of the three survivors from the 1999 bus accident disappearance:
For fans of the German series Dark—which concluded this summer with one of the most satisfying endings ever created in a series—this opening of a storyline will sound extremely familiar.
Dark also began with the mysterious disappearance of young children…
Dark wraps up in season three, but we’ll pop the trailer for the first season below for those playing catch-up:
Dark has an 8,8 rating on IMDb, so the praise seems justified.
You may as well start with Dark, binge through three seasons by year-end, and then pick things up again with Equinox come December 30.
I back you.
