I don’t know much about Justin Trudeau’s schedule, but it appears that politicians across the world spend at least some part of their day fielding calls from around the world.
In the US, Donald Trump has what has been dubbed “executive time”, which involves calls, tweeting, and obsessing over cable news, for example.
Rather embarrassingly, it appears that Trudeau has been duped by notorious Russian comedians Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, who call themselves Vovan and Lexus.
They managed to get through to the Canadian Prime Minister, who believed that he was talking to climate change activist Greta Thunberg.
The call was actually made back in January, reports the Guardian, but only made public this week:
During the 10-minute call, a third person – playing the teenage climate activist – tells Trudeau she is worried about a “growing international crisis and anticipation of the world war”.
“It already leads to disaster,” says fake Greta. “It’s very scary,” to which Trudeau replies: “Yes indeed.”
…“You are adults but you act like children,” she says. “We can create a world where there is a place for everyone. For white and black. Christians and Muslims. Trump and Putin. for you and me. For Boris Johnson. For Corbyn. For Terrance and Phillip, who are also known in your country.”
Yes, that Terrance and Phillip. The Canadian characters from South Park.
Fake Greta also went on to accuse Meghan Markle of “manipulating” Prince Harry, as well as asking that Trudeau withdraws from NATO.
The penny finally drops when fake Greta keeps on banging the Terrance and Phillip drum:
“Wait, Terrance and Phillip, where they not in South Park?” he asks. “I don’t personally know them. I believe they are South Park parodies of Canadians,” he says, before politely ending the call.
Here’s the call in its entirety:
I’m surprised he fell for it, but I suppose once somebody is patched through you assume they’ve been vetted.
I mean, even Darren ‘Wackhead’ Simpson’s prank calls are more believable than this.
Actually, no, they’re not
