Donald Trump has always had a tenuous relationship with the truth.
That’s being diplomatic, and ever since he lost his reelection bid he’s dived deeper down the hole of misinformation and conspiracy, as he seeks to undermine faith in American democracy.
He’s succeeding, but not exactly in the way that he thinks he is.
Given that Donald knows his niece hates him (Mary Trump had said a second term “would be the end of American democracy”), along with his sister Maryanne Trump Barry (she called him “cruel”, a “brat”, and far worse in secret recordings), it’s no wonder that the president touted the support of his other sister, Elizabeth Trump Grau (pictured above).
Just the one problem – the Twitter account spewing anti-Joe Biden messages, and praise for Donald, was clearly a fake.
Right-wing figure Wayne Dupree published a story about the account, which was then picked up by the president himself.
He must be very close with Elizabeth, because he didn’t bother to check with her before sending this out:
Thank you Elizabeth, LOVE! https://t.co/iopJ0AJ1KV

It took all of about 20 seconds for most sane Americans to see that @TheBettyTrump (now suspended) was a pisstake.
Without a shred of irony, Trump had just tweeted this out about half an hour earlier:
SO TRUE! https://t.co/QmLcwWP9TM

These fact-checkers are bogus, says the man who just tweeted out fake news about his own sister.
With the account now suspended, we’ve cobbled together some screenshots to show the progression from parody account to the president’s attention.
Here’s the first tweet that went out:
Given that Elizabeth, or Betty, has remained largely silent during her brother’s tenure, this was fishy.
Then there was what came next, which was basically a stream-of-consciousness feed of jokes and jibes:
Then, following Donald’s tweet and the added attention, the pivot to parody:
In other words, I honestly didn’t think the sitting president would be daft enough to think this was really his sister.
Plot twist – he was. This man has the nuclear codes.
When VICE contacted Elizabeth Trump Grau about the account, she had this to say:
“I’m trying to delete it. I don’t even belong to Twitter.”
“I have no statement,” she said. “I’m just annoyed about this whole thing.”
Elizabeth was successful, with Huff Post reporting that Twitter suspended the account for violating its policies against platform manipulation and spam.
