Last week, the EFF stationed themselves outside of Brackenfell High School.

They were met there by Brackenfell High School parents, as well as members of the community, and things quickly turned ugly.

The days that followed saw the school governing body attempting to obtain an urgent interdict against the red berets that would bar them from protesting outside of the school, which was denied by Judge Siraj Desai.

The EFF promised that they would behave themselves in the protest planned for today, November 20.

That protest is currently in full swing, and following myriad Twitter posts calling on members of the party to “push back”, and “descend and ensure that nothing operates” at the school posted over the course of the week, things are already out of hand.

The EFF kicked the day’s events off by trying to set up a mobile toilet which Brackenfell residents weren’t too keen on:

A group gathered outside the school to counter the protest were warned to leave before 10AM when the march was scheduled to start:

The police have chased away the counter protestors at the #Brackenfellhighschool apparently they did not bother to do the paperwork and get approval for their “supervisory protests”.

According to News24, hundreds of EFF protesters arrived via bus for what they’re calling ‘Red Friday’.

The protesters marching down the road towards the school were met by a heavy police presence. Police fired stun grenades and water cannons to disperse EFF supporters.

The EFF’s Marshall Dlamini is, at the time of writing, negotiating with SAPS to find a way to hand over a memorandum outlining their grievances. SAPS is saying that only 100 protesters will be allowed to gather.

Per IOL, classes at the school are continuing as normal, but exams have been cancelled for today.

Chairperson Guillaume Smith of the governing body says:

The school is in no way malicious nor does it have an ill intent towards anyone. Our priority has always been the well-being of all our learners. While the situation we find ourselves in is an unfortunate emotional one, we are grateful that both our learners and staff have been handling it well.

“We are pleading with everyone to consider that no issue can ever be resolved by shouting profanities and being violent,” said Smith.
