Most of us would like to think that our final words would be something prophetic, or at least something poignant.
A farewell to a loved one, for example, or confirmation of a life well-lived.
If you ask Jodi Doering, an emergency room nurse in South Dakota, her truth is something that is both terrifying and saddening.
South Dakota led the US in new cases and deaths per capita last week, but the governor, Republican Kristi L. Noem, has consistently refused to implement a statewide mask mandate, and has sided with President Trump in showing disdain and antagonism towards mainstream scientific opinion.
On Saturday night, after Doering arrived home exhausted from another long shift, she took to Twitter to share what’s happening on many people’s deathbeds.
Her Twitter thread soon went viral:
Going to ruin the USA. All while gasping for breath on 100% Vapotherm. They tell you there must be another reason they are sick. They call you names and ask why you have to wear all that “stuff” because they don’t have COViD because it’s not real. Yes. This really happens. And

Which is what I will do for the next three nights. But tonight. It’s me and Cliff and Oreo ice cream. And how ironic I have on my “home”

On Monday, Doering appeared on CNN, and elaborated on what she’s been seeing.
Skip ahead to the 1:15 mark to hear her recount her experiences at the hospital where she works:
COVID-19 patients often die without loved ones around, and rather than using those last moments to connect with partners, family, and friends, some choose to go out denying the existence of the very disease that is killing them.
The latest stats show that the US has now passed 11 million confirmed COVID-19 cases, with more than 250 000 deaths.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch:
Another Vaccine just announced. This time by Moderna, 95% effective. For those great “historians”, please remember that these great discoveries, which will end the China Plague, all took place on my watch!

Yes, Donald, but so did the 250 000 deaths, with that number rapidly rising.
