This month, Platter’s will be releasing their South African Wine Guide 2021.
It’s arguably the most comprehensive, up-to-date, and authoritative guide to who’s who and what’s what in the winelands, enjoyed by everyone from wine collectors and connoisseurs to everyday folks who want to make the most out of their wine buying or wine tasting experiences.
The guide features hundreds of producers and brands and thousands of individual wines, ranked by a team of experts, so cracking a five-star rating is a pretty big deal.
This year, the maker of our favourite wines here at 2oceansvibe, Anthonij Rupert Wyne, received five-star ratings for three of their most popular offerings.
The vineyards selected for the Anthonij Rupert wines are chosen from vines planted on very specific sites and soils. The canopies of each block and the final yield of each site was managed precisely to express the character of the different varietal and location.
Let’s check out the tasting notes for those five-star beauties.
Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Franc 2014
The deep, dark colour gives you a hint of what’s to come:
Blueberry and blackberry fruit with notes of freshly turned earth, pencil shavings and a brush of dried oreganum. Complex, layered, and refined with a beautifully supply dry, fine tannin from integrated oak.
Long, lithe, and pliable on the finish.

Cape of Good Hope Laing Groendruif 2017
Personally, I prefer white wine, especially now that it’s summer, and it doesn’t get better than this:
Nettle, lemon zest, flint, and a touch of waxy grapefruit with faint floral hints on the nose. Crisp, bright, taut, and focused with a slightly nervy acid note apparent.
It ages well, making it the perfect wine to stock up on for the cellar.
Remember those tasting notes and you’ll sound reasonably impressive.

Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
This stunningly tasty wine would make an excellent gift for the wine lover in your life.
Brambly blackcurrant leaf and cassis vie with a heady violet perfume for prominence on the bouquet. The palate is effortlessly sleek and suave with understated elegance being the watchword. Perfectly ripe fruitcake flavour can be found, along with cassis and brambles.
The hint of fruitcake wouldn’t go amiss at the Christmas dinner table, either.

You should also check out the Cape of Good Hope Caroline 2016, which took home gold for best white wine blend in the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show’s Museum Class category.
Anthonij Rupert Wyne boasts a range of phenomenal wines for you to choose from, all of which can be ordered online, or at the Anthonij Rupert Wyne estate.
Have a browse, fill up your cart, and raise a glass.
