A goalkeeper coming up for an attacking corner is one of football’s truly great sights.
Sure, it usually means your team is a goal down in the dying seconds, and thus likely to lose, but every so often the fairytale ending happens and the ‘keeper is flooded by wildly celebrating teammates.
One such example here – a flying header – but it doesn’t come much better than Oscarine Masuluke’s incredible overheard goal for Baroka F.C. against Orlando Pirates in 2016.
Watch it. You’ll be impressed.
All of this leads us to a hero to zero story, condensed into 90 seconds of football mayhem, via a Spanish sixth-division clash between Vinaròs and rivals Peñíscola.
Vinaròs goalkeeper Carlos Aguayo Torres comes up for the corner, curls one into the corner to level the scores, and is a hero.
Until…
Lobbed from the kick-off to see your team lose anyway.
The final whistle was blown moments later, and the game ended 2-1 to Peñíscola.
At least Torres can take comfort from the fact that he’s not Jordan Pickford.
