Angelo Agrizzi is currently being treated at a private Johannesburg hospital, whilst his court case rumbles on in the Johannesburg High Court.
Yesterday, Advocate Mannie Witz read out a letter from Agrizzi’s physician, which stated that he was “gravely ill in our intensive care unit”, was breathing with the use of a ventilator, and was on dialysis.
The Daily Maverick adds that Witz says his client is “chained to his hospital bed and there were three armed guards in his room, with another three outside the door and three more in the car park”.
Seems like law enforcement isn’t taking any chances, which isn’t all that surprising when you consider the details that emerged during Agrizzi’s unsuccessful bail hearing two weeks ago.
Million of rands stashed away offshore, a home in Italy, multiple cryptocurrency accounts – the list goes on, and the State made a strong case that Agrizzi was planning to flee the country and live an expensive lifestyle abroad.
Carte Blanche recently connected the dots, too:
…former Bosasa boss Angelo Agrizzi has been a very busy man as he seemingly planned his escape out of the country. Before his testimony at the State Capture Commission, the notorious whistle-blower offloaded money to off-shore accounts. But his planned trip to Italy was derailed.
