Despite all of the evidence, there are still those who refuse to believe that face masks are worth wearing.
Some of these anti-maskers are able to present vaguely articulate arguments for their viewpoints (they’re still wrong), whilst others are completely untethered from reality and leave you wondering how they survive from day to day.
Perhaps the former can still be won over, and a bacon-scented face mask might just be the perfect way to do so.
Hormel Foods, which produces Black Label Bacon (no relation to Zamalek), isn’t selling the masks to the general public, but is running a competition that’s open to those in the United States.
That probably rules you out, but might help reduce the number of mask-related showdowns in ‘Merica, so let’s find out how it works anyway via CNET:
“Using the latest in bacon-smell technology and irresistibly breathable, two-ply fabric, finally, bacony bliss can be with you always — even while out in public,” the giveaway website reads.
A representative for the meat company says the response has been “overwhelming,” and that Hormel may have to create a second batch of masks depending on the number of entries received.
I would advise that you only watch the video below on a full stomach:
The competition, which runs until October 28, isn’t just a PR exercise for the brand.
Hormel will donate one meal to hunger-relief organisation Feeding America for every entry, capped at 10 000 meals, so let’s hope the Yanks enter in large numbers.
There’s also a cheeky dig at those who haven’t quite yet mastered the art of wearing a face mask on the competition page.
Observe.
The nose poking out is pretty commonplace here in South Africa, too.
I’ll pop this here one more time for those at the back:
