Some background information about The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’, before we take a look at Miley’s rendition of it.
It’s a protest song written by the band’s lead singer, Dolores O’Riordan, about the 1993 IRA bombing in Warrington, during the Troubles in Ireland, in memory of two young victims, Johnathan Ball and Tim Parry.
The two boys had gone out to buy Mother’s Day cards on one of the town’s busiest shopping streets.
It was released in September 1994 as the lead single from their second studio album, No Need to Argue.
Now that you know what it’s about, let’s move on to Miley, per Rolling Stone, who performed the song as part of her three-song set from Los Angeles’ famed Whisky A Go-Go as part of the Save Our Stages Festival (#SOSFest).
The three-day virtual benefit was staged in support of independent music venues which stand the risk of closing due to financial issues brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
She performed ‘Zombie’ alongside The Cure’s ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ and her own ‘Midnight Sky’.

Not a fan of the ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ cover.
‘Zombie’? she’s no Dolores O’Riordan, but not bad.
Then there’s the new mullet she’s sporting, which won’t be saving any towns, any time soon.
