The viral global Jerusalema Dance Challenge, performed to the hit song ‘Jerusalema’ by South African musician Master KG, featuring the voice of Nomcebo Zikode, has some serious staying power.
It’s getting giraffes and elephants living it up, our own Ndlovu Youth Choir has joined in, and the dance craze has swept the world with no sign of slowing down.
There have been some gems doing the rounds, as people continue to bring their own brand of creativity to the challenge, but my favourite, hands down, comes to us from the South African film industry.
Per Variety, hundreds of South African actors and crew members came together on Heritage Day to put together something incredible.
Shot over two days on a custom-built set at Cape Town Film Studios, the mini-film is made up of two elements: a scripted action sequence and a mass dance sequence that celebrates the cast, crew, and creatives that come together to make magic happen on screen.
It’s nothing short of brilliant:
All facilities and services involved in making the film were supplied for free, including studio facilities, catering, equipment, and transport.
Participants also supported a charity drive by way of donations, food parcels, and vouchers for the unemployed.
Want to watch it again?
Go on, I’ll join you.
