Try to think up the worst possible superhero and you’ll land on the man in the jetpack who invades airspace in Los Angeles.
He’s a hazard.
We are aware that the person could be a woman, but we’re going with ‘man’ here for the sake of continuity, especially because the first pilot to spot him, described him as a “guy in a jetpack”.
We’re up to three separate sightings of ‘Jetpack Guy’, as he shall henceforth be known, the first two of which happened on August 30 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The latest, also at LAX, came to us from China Airlines, on October 14.
While it’s possible that this is a different person in a jetpack, it seems unlikely.
He’s clearly been laying low for a while but felt like it was safe to venture out again after the hype died down.
The recent sighting, says The Cut, was at an approximate altitude of 6 000 feet, about seven miles northwest of the airport.
Skip to the 25-second mark for audio from the pilots who spotted him:
The Federal Aviation Administration says that they’re looking into it.
Note that air traffic controllers now feel the need to ask whether or not the pilots saw a ‘jetpack’ – something which I’m sure they didn’t do until Jetpack Guy started flying around where he wasn’t wanted.
