Say it quietly.
What’s that in the distance? Oh, hey, it’s summer.
We can’t officially declare summer open just yet, because we require a seven-day forecast of nothing but sunshine to do so.
Google ‘Cape Town weather’ and you’ll see some clouds forecast for Thursday, which are due to hang around for most of the weekend.
The season draws ever nearer, though, and a decent sundowner session now gets you pretty close to the 7PM mark.
As we used to say around the office (we work from home now), sun’s out, Sol’s out, and now our favourite summer beverage has released a Spotify playlist to get us amped for the coming months.
It’s titled #TasteTheSun, and there’s a good reason for that. In 1899, in a brewery near Pico de Orizaba, the highest peak in Mexico, a brewer created a light, refreshing beer made from the water closest to the sun.
The story goes that, as the brewer held up the beer, a ray of sun peeped through a hole in the roof onto the transparent bottle and, in honour of the sun, inspired the name Sol.
Go on, hold one up to the sky and see for yourself…
Just like that, I’m thirsty.
Anyway, you came here to listen to some tunes, so let’s get down to business.
Sol’s playlist has 20 tracks, so headphones in, pop it on shuffle, and off you go.
Bring on summer!
