We are used to seeing the EFF and their supporters resort to violence, but this weekend in Umlozi, south of Durban, ANC members began brawling amongst themselves regarding the nomination of a local ward councillor.
A meeting was called between branch members of Umlozi’s ward 84 on Saturday, where the nomination was set to be finalised, but that didn’t go to plan.
Any nomination would have been sent to the eThekwini region, and then to the provincial executive committee for finalisation by the national ANC leadership, but instead, the meeting descended into chaos.
This from the Sowetan:
The council seat became available after the death of Bhekithemba Phungula, who also chaired the local ANC branch.
Phungula was killed in a hail of bullets by unknown assailants at his Umlazi home.
The by-election is scheduled to take place on November 11.
Here’s the footage from the brawl:

When pressed on what action the party would take, the deputy convener of the eThekwini regional task team (RTT), Bheki Ntuli, said he was busy “establishing the facts regarding the brawl”.
Don’t hold your breath expecting anybody to be held accountable.
