I haven’t really paid much attention to Weird Al Yankovic since ‘Amish Paradise’ which still gets stuck in my head from time to time.
Anyway, he’s back with a comedic take on the hot mess that was the US presidential debate earlier this week.
In the good old tradition of autotune, he sifted through the insults and mudslinging to put together a short musical video titled ‘We’re All Doomed’.
Billboard is calling it “the only good thing that seems to have come out of the chaotic presidential debate”.
Nah, I think Trevor Noah’s response is still in the top spot, but don’t take my word for it.
You can decide for yourself. I believe in you.
“2020 is a raging hellscape / Any ideas on how to stop a worldwide plague?” Yankovic begins as a dance-y beat storms in and autotuned remarks from Donald Trump and Joe Biden weave into the explosive “Who’s it gonna be?” chorus.
“We’re living in the apocalypse / I’m begging you to put a stop to this, pretty please,” the satirical singer begged, before showcasing some of the wilder moments from the debate, including Trump’s refusal to condemn white supremacy and failure to acknowledge the global climate crisis.
The start is a little loud, but stay with it until the autotune kicks in:
Trump bragging about not wearing a mask has come back to haunt him. Both he and Melania’s COVID-19 test came back positive.
He was tested after Hope Hicks, one of his closest aides also tested positive.
Trump seldom wears a mask and has resumed large campaign rallies with thousands of supporters (few in masks) including two recent indoor events in Arizona and Nevada, so it was only a matter of time.
