On Monday night, a truck driver in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, was killed after he lost control of his vehicle.
The truck was filmed ploughing through multiple vehicles on Stapleton Road, before coming to rest against a residential property wall.
The exact circumstances leading up to the accident remain unclear, with Leon Fourie from Life Response 24/7 telling News24 that paramedics attempted to resuscitate the driver without success.
Fourie said that a Metro Police officer was taking down the details of the first accident when the truck driver returned to his vehicle and tried to reverse:
He added the driver then got out of the truck but it gained momentum and ploughed into several cars. The driver tried to stop it, but he seemed to lose his footing and fell, hitting his head.
A Metro Police officer who was not authorised to talk to the media told IOL that the “truck driver lost control of the carrier, seemed to have engaged the wrong gear and crashed to the vehicles”.
Whatever the circumstances, the driver lost his life in the tragic accident.
