Day number 328 of 1 449 as rugby world champions.
That means we’re just over 22% of the way through our reign, which hopefully puts a little extra pep in your step this Monday.
If that doesn’t work, then consider that this Sunday (October 4) at 6PM, the first episode of Chasing the Sun, the much-anticipated SuperSport documentary series plotting our path to Rugby World Cup glory, will finally air.
It was originally slated to be a six-part series, but now appears to be reduced to five.
We won’t rehash what the series promises to shed light on because we’ve covered that already, but in the build-up to the premiere, SuperSport has recently released a number of clips.
One that stands out is focused on Rassie Erasmus, the then head coach who is now SA Rugby’s director of rugby, and some frank words from Jesse Kriel:
We’ve seen Rassie talk about being an “entitled dickhead”, and we know what was said at half-time in the final against England.
When you consider that he was undergoing chemotherapy treatment during the tournament, related to a rare autoimmune disease called microscopic polyangiitis with granulomatosis, those words are all the more powerful.
Sometimes you have to be a little mad, especially when you consider how few people gave the Springboks a chance in the lead-up to the tournament.
The trailer for episode one outlines exactly that:
What does it mean to be a Springbok? Ask these chaps:
Finally, a little love for Tendai ‘The Beast’ Mtawarira, who racked up 117 Springbok caps, the last of which will forever be etched into his memory:
Sunday, October 4, 6PM – let’s relive the glory.
