When Porsche announced the pending launch of the Porsche Taycan EV electric sports car last year, it was instantly flooded with preorders.
In August, we were looking at 30 000, which was 10 000 more than the company initially anticipated, prompting then to ramp up production.
The electric car comes in three variants.
At the lower end of the spectrum, the base rear-wheel-drive Taycan boasts an 80kW battery with two choices of motors (240kW or 280kW).
The mid-range Carrera 4S comes with all-wheel drive and a choice of either 320kW or 360kW motors, while the top-of-the-range Taycan has the same battery as the mid-range model but with 440kW of power and 880Nm of torque.
Top Gear’s Chris Harris decided to take the Taycan around the race track in the UK and pushed it so far that “his kidneys hurt”.
Here’s Mashable:
The first all-electric vehicle from the German automaker arrived in the U.S. at the beginning of the year after its European debut. It’s not a race car, but a four-door sporty EV that’s often compared to the fastest Tesla Model S sedan.
It’s pricier than a Tesla.
Then again it’s a Porsche, so that’s not entirely surprising.
Watch it go:
Not bad for an EV.
Looks like Tesla has some serious competition.
