Our obsession with true-crime series and documentaries has advanced to the point where I sometimes read about a crime and think ‘yup, that would make a cracking Netflix series’.
In the case of Colorado couple Shanann Watts and Chris Watts, their names were in the news back in 2018, when Shannan and her two daughters went missing.
Do not Google the case, because you’ll find out all of the details about what followed.
Instead, let’s read the Netflix synopsis:
As heartbreaking details emerged, their story made headlines worldwide. Told entirely through archival footage that includes social media posts, law enforcement recordings, text messages and never-before-seen home videos, director Jenny Popplewell pieces together an immersive and truthful examination of a police investigation and a disintegrating marriage.
I’ve sat through a few six-part, slow-moving series that would have been better suited as a once-off doccie, so I think Popplewell has done well here.
Trailer time:
The doccie will be released on September 30.
