I happen to live just a stone’s throw outside the heart of the Cape Town CBD, and I love it.
Close enough that I can Uber to and from work (when we still went to the office), but far enough out that I can be running the mountain trails above Vredehoek without much hassle.
That doesn’t happen often, but it’s nice to know I have the option.
There’s a lot to be said for living slap bang in the middle of town, so apartments come at a premium.
For example, there is zero load shedding. That’s 24 hours of power a day, uninterrupted, no matter how many of Eskom’s plants or coal conveyor belts break down.
Farewell, EskomSePush.
After a little squizz through Property24, I found this one-bedroom apartment, in Mandela Rhodes Place on Church Street, going for R1,95 million:
Luxury fully-furnished studio apartment in the prestigious Mandela Rhodes Place, located in the heart of Cape Town’s city centre…
The building has a number of top restaurants, downstairs concierge, 24-hour security, and a beautiful pool and deck overlooking the city, dedicated to residents and hotel guests and also offers the 24-hour gym for all tenants and owners.
The apartment is a spacious one-bedroom open plan design with neatly designed kitchen with built-in oven, stove and extractor fan, plumbing and 2 large appliances as well as a fridge with a center island for dining included.
The living room has city views from the window. The bedroom has plenty of built-in cupboards and comfortably fits a queen bed.
The ensuite bathroom has beautiful sliding shutter doors, has a large bathtub, rain shower, toilet, basin with more built-in cupboards.
Views, guys:
I could smash a few summer beers on that roof.
24-hour gym access ain’t too shabby, either.
Even if you don’t use it all that often, you still get to make that New Year’s resolution each year, before throwing in the towel by mid-February.
See the full listing here, which also says that a rental price of R14 000 a month can be negotiated.
