This evening, at 7PM, President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation.
According to a tweet from The Presidency’s official account confirming the time, he will provide an update “on developments in South Africa’s risk-adjusted response to the COVID-19 pandemic”.
Sources familiar with ongoing discussions inside the Presidential Coordinating Council and the National Coronavirus Command Council have said that Ramaphosa will announce that South Africa is moving to alert level 1.
International travel will reopen, but with certain conditions in place – more on that here.
Deep breath, South Africa – Cyril isn’t coming after your booze or entjies.
As with most of these addresses, there is no guarantee that it will start on time, and I recommend you spend any delay reading up on the difference between a national state of disaster and a state of emergency.
