I know there’s a great deal to unpack from that headline, so let’s do this bit by bit.
Firstly, Carole Baskin is appearing on the current Dancing with the Stars season, as she seeks to maximise the notoriety of starring in Tiger King.
We shouldn’t be too surprised. For the right price, she’ll sing you ‘happy birthday’ to the tune of 50 Cent’s ‘In Da Club’.
We begin with Carole’s dance, which took place on Monday night’s episode, and has been widely panned by fans of the show.
Appearing with professional dancer Pasha Pashkov, who started the routine in a cage (not a great look), she seemed lost, and walked through much of the routine:
‘Eye of the Tiger’ as a soundtrack – predictable.
The real kicker, though, came during one of the ad breaks, when the family of Don Lewis, Carole’s ex-husband who disappeared back in 1997, aired a commercial appealing for information related to his case.
Carole is currently being sued by Lewis’ family, and there really is no love lost.
This aired in Florida during the premiere, with family members speaking out against the Big Cat Rescue CEO:
I reckon the above message was approved by Joe Exotic.
This was an orchestrated campaign by the Lewis family and their lawyers, reports CBS News:
In a YouTube video posted on Monday ahead of the “DWTS” premiere, [attorney, John M.] Phillips revealed the ad would air, calling it a “public service announcement.” The attorney said while Lewis’ story received widespread attention on CBS News’ “48 Hours” and “Tiger King,” “the real question remains.”
“Somebody out there knows. We need help. We need help solving this,” Phillips said. “Somebody knows more about Don’s last hours on Earth and we should care about what happened. We all should care and we should all help solve this cold case.”
Phillips also held a news conference in Tampa on Monday, announcing an independent investigation into Lewis’ disappearance, the Associated Press reported.
In the news conference, Phillips once again underlined that he has filed a lawsuit against Baskin on behalf of the Lewis family, in an attempt to depose her and get her to speak on the record.
There have also been billboards erected around the Tampa Bay area, asking anybody with information to come forward.
We’ll give Joe Exotic the final word:
People are sending letters wanting to know what I think about Carole being on Dancing With the Stars. They are laughing at her, not with her, and the more she keeps her face on tv the more people will come forward about the crimes she has done. #FreeJoeExotic pic.twitter.com/oL3zyX02Jt
