Honestly, after all the hype around the new Bond film, No Time To Die, I was getting a little tired of watching Daniel Craig being shot at, or running away from things that are about to explode.
Take a look at the latest trailer to see what I’m talking about.
What I really wanted to see was more of Safin, the latest Bond villain played by Rami Malek, the actor who has a habit of nailing every role he tackles by taking to the next level.
Safin is a genocidal new villain with a complex character arc. He seems to be a combination of Joker in The Dark Night (who just wants to watch the world burn) and Thanos from Avengers: Endgame (who has some misguided morality behind his actions).
While Safin has popped up briefly in some of the endless trailers that have kept fans busy while we wait for the latest film in the franchise, he has finally earned some solid screen time in a new clip.
Per Mashable:
Safin appears to be connected to psychologist Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux), who appeared in the previous film Spectre as Bond’s love interest. If you’ve forgotten, she’s the daughter of Mr. White, a member of evil organisation SPECTRE, run by 007’s longtime nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
Swann seems to know that Safin’s out for some kind of revenge in this new clip, and Safin knows exactly who she cares about (hello, bargaining chip).
But it’s all this talk of “eradicating people” that seems to lie at the core of what Safin’s villainous goal will be in the film.
In other words, he’s conflicted, and therefore unpredictable, which is everything that I want in a bad guy.
Take a look:
If Malek’s goal was to make the character “unsettling”, as he says at the start of the clip, he has succeeded.
Look out for No Time To Die, sometime in November.
