Adam Sandler isn’t for everyone.
By that, I mean he made some classics back in the day, but most of his recent movies (aside from Uncut Gems and The Meyerowitz Stories) have been steaming piles of shite.
Uncut Gems is a genuinely good movie, and scored a five-star review from the Guardian.
The thing about Sandler’s Netflix’s movies is that people watch them in huge numbers, which is why the streaming service signed him on a six-film, $250 million deal back in 2014.
Hubie Halloween is the sixth and final movie of that deal, although he did sign an extension in January for an additional four films, the financial terms of which remain undisclosed.
The man will not be going hungry.
IndieWire points out that this flick, due for release on October 7, isn’t going to land Sandler any Oscar buzz:
Sandler stars in “Hubie Halloween” as Hubie DuBois, a well-intentioned but dopey and frequently-mocked community volunteer who spends each Halloween exhaustively ensuring his neighbors celebrate the holiday safely. The film will follow Hubie as he finds himself at the center of a real murder investigation during one Halloween night.
There’s plenty of star power on show, with Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta, Maya Rudolph, Rob Schneider, Kenan Thompson, Steve Buscemi, Michael Chiklis, Tim Meadows, Noah Schnapp, Paris Berelc, China Anne McClain and Shaquille O’Neal all appearing.
Fun fact – this is the first time Sandler and Bowen have worked together since Happy Gilmore.
Here’s the trailer:
Ja, I won’t be going anywhere near that, thanks.
But you do you.
Something I would recommend watching is My Octopus Teacher, which is currently streaming on Netflix.
If you think a documentary about the relationship between a man and a cephalopod won’t leave you teary-eyed, think again.
