We’re nearing the release date for the iPhone 12, and there’s a great deal to be excited about.
An official date has yet to be announced, but the general consensus is that Apple will unveil its 2020 phones within the next few weeks.
The tech giant has announced an event for September 15, but it’s unclear if the company will announce the newest iPhones then.
The buzz around the iPhone 12 has been growing for months, with CNN dubbing it a “must-have product”, and some industry insiders reckon the iPhone 12 could be one of four new iPhones announced.
Via The Verge, here’s the lowdown on that front:
- A new 5.4-inch model, which would be smaller screen than the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro (and presumably be an entirely smaller phone)
- A low-end 6.1-inch model — the same screen size as the iPhone 11 — with similar specs as its 5.4-inch sibling
- A second 6.1-inch model with high-end specs
- A new 6.7-inch model, which would be a bigger screen than the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max (and likely be larger in size as well)
There’s plenty written about the exterior of the new phones, like squared-off and stainless steel edges, but I’m more interested with what’s going on inside.
The latest iPhones are expected to be the first to supports 5G networks, which means faster speeds for those who have 5G in their area, provided the tinfoil hat brigade hasn’t attacked the towers.
Regarding the screen display:
Apple’s entire fall iPhone lineup is finally expected to have OLED screens this year…
OLED screens have some advantages over LCD — because each pixel on an OLED screen is individually lit, the screen can just turn those pixels off when showing blacks. That can mean deeper blacks, truer colors, more vibrance, and sometimes better battery life.
Under the hood, the processor is expected to be a major upgrade, “with an emphasis on speeding up artificial intelligence and AR tasks”.
We also know that Apple is ramping up its privacy features for iOS 14, which Facebook isn’t too keen on. When Facebook is upset, you must be doing something right.
