Earlier this week, Netflix released a teaser trailer for its upcoming horror series, The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Crummy horrors are a dime a dozen, but a really terrifying one is pretty hard to come by, and we may be dealing with the latter, here.
A follow-up to The Haunting of Hill House, from creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy, and set in 1980’s England, we’re going to be treated to some creepy dolls, because apparently ruining clowns for children wasn’t enough.
More from the Netflix synopsis:
After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor with the estate’s chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve) and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T’Nia Miller).
But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this chilling gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn’t mean gone.
It’s based in part on a novel — Bly Manor is the setting of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw, written in 1898, but looks set to take on a life of its own.
I guess we should get this over with:
You have until October 9 to muster the bravery to watch this one, which is when it will drop on Netflix.
I’ll be giving it a wide berth so that I can still sleep at night.
