Usually, when we don our multimillionaire caps and dream about owning properties far, far beyond our means, we stick to the Cape.
A cool R12 million in Llandudno, just the matter of R150 million in Fresnaye, and R35 million in Hermanus, by way of example.
Should you decide that you’re not all that fussed about living near the ocean, and you’re keen to switch to the Big Smoke, you get plenty of bang for your buck in the middle price range.
There’s no fun in looking at a R2,5 million house, though, so let’s go straight for the big hitters, and a R65 million gem in Sandhurst, one of the more sought after residential areas in Jozi.
The Property24 listing for the five-bedroom, five-bathroom whopper calls it a “spectacular modern home” with “breathtaking views”:
A dramatic curved driveway leads up to this majestic Jeremy Williams designer home that has been built to take advantage of the views – it is light, bright, spacious, with huge volumes.
Three storeys, with large garage space, two elevators and two staircases (glass and stainless steel), situated on 8,565 sqm.
The four reception rooms with gas fireplaces, rim-flow pool and pool deck, entertainment patio, are on the first floor, looking out to the Magaliesberg in front, and the Sandton CBD to the right.
There are five bedrooms en-suite with balconies, plus pajama lounge, on the second floor.
At this stage, after more than 150 days of lockdown, any lounge is a ‘pajama lounge’.
I wore jeans for the first time in months this past weekend. It felt weird.
There are also staff quarters, with two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a lounge/kitchen.
I usually prefer looking at terribly expensive homes that are fully furnished, so you can get a sense for how you’ll never be able to kit it out, but here’s the kicker with this listing.
As you may have guessed from some of the images above, the house is being sold “not completely finished”, so whoever buys it will need to take care of the cabinetry, carpeting, kitchen, and cinema.
The listing says that prospective buyers should “come and negotiate”, so you would expect that the R65 million listed price has more than a little wriggle room.
Something to cling onto as we call time on this dream, for now.
