Two weeks ago, there were reports of possible snow on top of Table Mountain.
One video, in particular, did the rounds, although many argued that it showed graupel (soft, small pellets formed when supercooled water droplets freeze onto a snow crystal), rather than actual snow.
There is no doubting the evidence this weekend, with the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway’s Facebook page sharing this footage from Saturday morning:
Absolutely dumping.
Yesterday, they shared these photos, featuring that lens-staring dassie and a few other gems:
There were similar scenes across the Western Cape, with snow blanketing the ground, and the consumption of red wine and sherry rocketing in response.
Let’s start with a great timelapse video put together by Alexcpt_Photography (Alex de Kock), showing Elandskloof in the Western Cape:
Via Storm Report SA, here’s footage from Pikkie Langenhoven, who says “he has never seen the snow this low ever in Swellendam”:
Further proof that hadedas will never, ever, be silenced.
If it was snow you were after, Ceres was a great spot to pick:
Beanies, puffer jackets, and multiple layers are the order of the day.
Sutherland isn’t in the Western Cape, but it’s worth taking a look at some footage from the area:
If you are keen to head out on the hunt for snow, here are some places worth considering, although it’s obviously important to check the weather, and perhaps phone a hotel or accommodation in the area, to see if it’s worth making the drive.
