Here in South Africa, we can laugh off the conspiracy theory/cult that is QAnon, because we’re not seeing political candidates running for office that endorse it, and it’s not causing violence on our streets.
(Our politicians have their own flaws, of course.)
They don’t have that luxury in the US, and nor do they have a president that will denounce it, meaning that the movement continues to gather steam, with nationwide protests taking place this weekend.
It’s all a bit like Scientology – the closer you look, the more ridiculous it becomes – and now Trevor Noah is wading in to outline how things have arrived at this point.
