Hands up if you miss the Obamas.
The Obama administration wasn’t without its issues, but the last four years have felt like a tidal wave of incoherence and bigotry, amongst other things.
Or, as Michelle Obama put it in her keynote address at the recent virtual Democratic National Convention (DNC), “Trump is the wrong president for [America]. He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head.”
That’s a polite way of saying what many around the world would say about the current US president.
Anyway, I digress.
Let’s move on to happier things, like Barack Obama’s annual Summer Playlist, which is, this year, full of tracks that the former president says are getting him and his family through quarantine.
Here’s Billboard with an overview of the featured artists, some of whom will be performing, or have already performed, at the DNC taking place over the course of the week.
Such A-list performers include Leon Bridges (“Texas Sun” with Khruangbin), Common (“Forever Begins”), John Legend (“Don’t Walk Away” with Koffee), The Chicks (“Gaslighter”), Billie Eilish (“My Future”), Maggie Rogers (“Love You For A Long Time”), Billy Porter (“For What It’s Worth”), and Jennifer Hudson (“Feeling Good”).
No Obama playlist would be complete without Beyoncé (his daughters and wife would never forgive him), who also features alongside Drake and Rihanna.
Three of our top picks from the playlist include…
Billy Porter, ‘For What It’s Worth’ (performing at the DNC, yesterday):
Beyoncé, ‘Shatta Wale’ (from Black is King):
Billie Eilish, ‘My Future’:
Obama posted the full list on Instagram:
The man has good taste.
I’ll leave you to update your Spotify playlist.
