I’m probably being unfair to Robert Pattinson due to his Twilight past, but his movies don’t really get me that amped.
That being said, there may be something to the noise around his latest film, The Devil All The Time, which is an adaptation of Donald Ray Pollock’s novel of the same name.
Elle has gone as far as to say Pattinson nails it in an “award-worthy role”, while The Verge calls the film a “gorgeous, slow-building, and tense ride”.
Having not seen it, I can’t offer much of an opinion, but here’s the synopsis from the official Netflix trailer:
Some people are just born to be buried.
In Knockemstiff, Ohio and its neighboring backwoods, sinister characters — an unholy preacher (Robert Pattinson), twisted couple (Jason Clarke and Riley Keough), and crooked sheriff (Sebastian Stan) — converge around young Arvin Russell (Tom Holland) as he fights the evil forces that threaten him and his family.
Spanning the time between World War II and the Vietnam war, director Antonio Campos’ THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME renders a seductive and horrific landscape that pits the just against the corrupted.
The film also features Bill Skarsgård, Mia Wasikowska, Harry Melling, Haley Bennett, and Pokey LaFarge:
If you enjoy psychological thrillers, filled with sinister secrets and small-town horror, you may have a winner on your hands.
The film hits Netflix on September 16, which gives you plenty of time to watch My Octopus Teacher first.
