I’ve always been a bit of a ‘pinner man’, myself. You know, those very thin two-hitter joints – that’s my vibe.
But with my new, legal delivery of cannabis from the Cape Cannabis Club (Blue Dream, on the premium indoor subscription), I was looking for ways to spice things up.
I looked online at kush.com (where else?), and was very impressed with the wide array of suggested joint variations. From ‘Dipped Doobies’, ‘Caviar Joints’ and ‘Snake In The Grass’, to ‘Hemp Blunts’ and ‘Gold Leaf Wrapped’, there certainly is something for everyone.
But then my eyes were automatically drawn to ‘Kief Joints’. What would a bunch of American stoners know about Kief Joints?
I thought I would start with some research into the origin of the South African slang word ‘kief’, or ‘kiff’.
According to Wikipedia, and their list of South African slang words:
kiff, kif, kief – (adjective) wicked, cool, neat, great, wonderful. The word derives from the Arabic word kif كيف, meaning pleasure or marijuana.
This may also be related to the Afrikaans word for poison: gif. Coastal pot-smokers used the term to refer to Durban Poison: “Gifs” [locally-grown marijuana].
The word evolved into kiff, an adjective or exclamation meaning “cool”, among English-speaking people on the east coast.
Don’t you love that the original Arabic word meant pleasure OR marijuana? Because, what’s the difference anyway, right?
Now, what is a Kief Joint, you ask? Well, let’s first understand what ‘kief’ means in marijuana circles. Watch this video by Leafly (less than a minute, nice and concise) to see what’s what:
In short, kief refers to the resin glands which contain the terpenes and cannabinoids that make cannabis so unique.
So, a Kief Joint is a joint rolled with only kief. And whilst kush.com gave lengthy descriptions on all the other variety of joints, Kief Joints merely had this description:
A pre-rolled cone filled with kief. All kief. Just Kief. Kief. Kief. Kief.
See how they’re using it as a slang word there? Copying.
Because we’re so awesome.
