If people are allowed to socialise once more come Halloween this year, you can bet there will be thousands of Tiger King-inspired outfits.
Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin are probably the frontrunners for most popular choices, although I’m tempted to go the Don Lewis route and not turn up at the Halloween party at all, without any explanation.
Lewis went ‘missing’ back in 1997, and is presumed dead, but that doesn’t mean his family are giving up just yet.
Here’s NBC News with more on her latest legal wrangle:
[Lewis’ family] has hired a lawyer and is offering $100,000 in exchange for information to help solve the case.
Attorney John Phillips held a news conference in Tampa on Monday and announced an independent investigation into Don Lewis’ disappearance.
He also said that on behalf of the Lewis family, he’s filed a lawsuit against Lewis’ second wife Carole Baskin in an attempt to depose her and get her to speak on the record. He and the family have also paid for Tampa-area billboards asking for information in the case.
Don went missing one day before a planned trip to Costa Rica, with Tiger King, mostly through Joe Exotic, laying out how Baskin may possibly have been involved.
There’s also the matter of the accusations that Lewis’ will was forged, and amended, in ways that benefitted Baskin:
In an email sent to the Associated Press on Monday, Baskin said she wouldn’t comment. “It’s been my policy not to discuss pending litigation until it’s been resolved,” she wrote.
“I had told some news outlets that I thought the press conference on Aug. 10 was just a publicity stunt, but at that time was not aware there would be pending litigation.”
Baskin has had some decent days in court recently, most notably when she was given control of about 16 acres of land in Garvin County, Oklahoma, which is where the zoo once owned by Joe Exotic is situated.
Regarding her ex-husband’s disappearance, Baskin has in the past alluded to his involvement with gangsters in Costa Rica, adding rumours of reporting sightings of Lewis.
I think it’s worth finishing with a little trip down memory lane, and that bonkers song that Joe recorded, titled ‘Here Kitty Kitty’:
