Ivan Zaborovsky may only be 16, but he already has quite a story to tell.
During a training session for FC Znamya Truda, the goalkeeper was struck by a lightning bolt, with the incident captured on video by cameras at the club’s training ground.
One look at the footage and you’d think he would be lucky to escape with his life but, quite incredibly, he has only a burn mark on his chest where he had been wearing a chain, and was otherwise unharmed.
Here’s the footage, via the Telegraph, as well as an interview with Zaborovsky:
In case you didn’t hang around until the end of the video, here’s more:
On Tuesday, Zaborovsky signed a contract with his club’s senior team, who play in Russia’s third division, something that had been planned before the lightning strike.
“Ivan is the goalkeeper on the regional team. He has good prospects,” coach Anton Basov said.
Hit by lightning and signing your first contract all in the same month – not bad going.
