This morning, we covered how the group ‘Gatvol Capetonian’ planned on protesting in at least 15 areas around Cape Town, which included a number of prominent roads closures.
You can get up to speed with all of that here.
Those who are able to avoid the roads in question are well-advised to do so, and there were five arrests linked to the ‘Gatvol Capetonian’ protests this morning.
It’s now being reported that the group has ended their protests for backyard dwellers in the metro on Monday, but that doesn’t mean the roads are clear.
This from News24:
However, other protests, some related to separate land invasion incidents, were still ongoing at points in the metro.
The areas still hit by these incidents, which includes stone throwing, is Bellville South. Peter Barlow Road has been closed and reopened again between Kasselsvlei Road and Robert Sobukwe Road.
In Kuilsriver, the R300 towards the N2 was also closed and reopened at Van Riebeeck Road.
Motorists have been advised that those roads have been hit by sporadic protests on Monday.
2oceanvibe reader Rick was out and about in traffic earlier today, and managed to film this on the N2, showing traffic going the wrong way:
Thanks, Rick
