Hands up if you’re still angry about the series finale of Game of Thrones.
I know it’s been more than a year since that aired, but to be kind, I’ll say some spoilers will follow…
First, Daenerys’ character arc goes from Mother of Dragons, to slave liberator, to rightful queen.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, she’s a mad dictator and five minutes later she’s dead.
All of this is followed by a weirdly comedic and strangely calm meeting where everyone decides to get along after eight seasons of trying to off each other.
Having declared their camaraderie they decide that Bran Stark, who spent most of the series in a trance or being dragged around on a sled, should become Bran the Broken, the First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Six Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm.
What should have been one of the series that people rewatched to pass the time during quarantine, has been forever ruined. You can’t enjoy season one through seven, because you know what’s coming and it’s depressingly bad.
HBO made a killing off Game of Thrones, so it makes sense that they’d want to do a spin-off. Obviously watching Bran the Broken sit on a throne creeping people out with his visions wasn’t going to cut it, so they’ve decided to do a prequel.
With everything that has happened you’d be forgiven for forgetting that they actually announced this last year.
They’re planning on calling it House of Dragon, but who knows – we can’t trust them anymore.
Whatever it’s called, it’s going ahead, and according to News.com.au, the casting call has been leaked, giving us some insight into which characters we can expect to see once this thing takes off.
“They are currently casting the leads for the Game of Thrones prequel series. There are two female roles: Rhaenyra Targaryen who they’re looking for someone in their late 20s for and Alicent Hightower who should be slightly older. Filming is currently scheduled to take place next year in the UK and Spain.”
Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen was the daughter of King Viserys I, and Queen Alicent Hightower was her stepmother.
If you have read Fire & Blood, or have spent a lot of time on the assorted Game of Thrones wikis, you probably know these characters, but so as not to potentially spoil the show for anyone, we won’t get into their stories here.
The show is also expected to cover the Dance of the Dragons which is the Targaryen civil war that just so happened to prominently feature Rhaenyra and Alicent.
It comes up a lot in GoT. People were very upset about it.
Taken in tandem, these leaks seem to reveal the plot of the Game of Thrones prequel series coming to HBO in 2022.
If you want to read ahead and find out what happened to the characters mentioned above, Fire & Blood: 300 Years Before A Game of Thrones covers the civil war and much, much more.
Or you can just sit, wait, and prepare yourself emotionally, in case they mess this one up, too.
