God, I love Billy Joel.
For so many reasons, not least of which for being the most New York New Yorker imaginable. And the fact that he loves pianos so much that he can’t drive past one dumped on a pavement, without having a look at it. Like some kind of a stray dog protection unit for pianos.
Please enjoy a rather portly Billy Joel tinkering with a piano on the side of the road in Long Island. Helmet still on, such was his urgency to diagnose the discarded instrument.
How stunning.
More details from Fox8:
A rep for Joel confirmed to CNN it indeed is the Piano Man in the video, but did not offer comment.
The 71-year-old performer was captured on what appears to be a cell phone camera, playing a Ragtime-type tune on the piano out near the street…
Joel suggests donating the piano to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul thrift store, and someone off camera can be heard saying there’s a thrift store nearby.
“They’d probably take it,” Joel says as he continues to examine and play notes on the piano.
Umm, ja – I think there’s a pretty good chance – especially after this little stunt.
Brilliant. What makes celebs do things like this, we’ll never know.
Long may it continue.
Anyway, here’s Billy, live in concert some time ago (in Long Island), singing ‘Scenes From an Italian Restaurant’.
Have a good weekend and play more Joel.
