Despite her tears during a video appearance before US District Judge Alison Nathan in Manhattan, Ghislaine Maxwell has been denied bail.

The judge was not in a forgiving mood, as prosecutors painted a picture of a “predator and a monster”, from whom victims needed protecting.

It also wouldn’t have helped her cause that during her arrest, the FBI found a phone wrapped in tin foil, after Maxwell had attempted to hide from agents who gained entry into her New Hampshire home.

After a short hiatus, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah returned this week, and Maxwell’s arrest was also going to receive coverage.
