Whilst it may be true that the pandemic is causing desperation, and more people may turn to crime to survive, the truth is that we’ve been seeing videos like this one below for years.
Another robbery in broad daylight, in public, with guns being wielded and shots being fired, this time taking place at a petrol station in Brixton, Johannesburg.
The gang responsible had just finished with the petrol station when they spotted the security guard cleaning his windscreen, says SAPS spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo, with the resulting altercation ending with the guard being shot and wounded, and the gang making off with money, car keys, and the man’s phone.
Other reports suggest the guard’s firearm was also stolen.
Masondo told TimesLIVE that police traced the gang to Denver, where they recovered the vehicle used to commit the crime, and took two men in for questioning.
The footage of the attack on the guard was shared to Facebook by @LocalsSA:
The guard, who was shot in the leg, was later taken to hospital.
