It’s that time of year when we’d usually dust off our best blue and white in preparation for the annual Franschhoek Bastille Festival.
Before this pandemic took all of our plans and threw them into lockdown disarray, the Bastille Festival was the perfect excuse to dress in your finest French attire, eat far too much cheese, wield a baguette, and drink a stellar range of fantastic wines.
Ah, the before times. We took them for granted.
This year, on July 14, many will have to celebrate Bastille Day at home. While it won’t be the social event that we’re used to, it doesn’t have to be a total bust.
Instagram that French finery, eat your body weight in cheese, wave a baguette in the face of your lockdown partner, and most importantly, stock up on some excellent wine.
Anthonij Rupert Wyne also feels that the party should go on, even if it has been relocated to your home. They’re bringing the celebrations to you with their Bordeaux-style Optima at R998 per case of six bottles (usually R1 098).
The Optima for your consideration:
If you want to wow others with your knowledge, the Optima offers a delightful interplay of blackcurrant, cassis, violet perfume and an earthy richness, and feels silky, supple and smooth when first it hits the palate.
That’s according to the tasting notes, which add that the flavours of dark berry fruit, Christmas pudding, cigar box and spice then make their presence felt.
It’s a beautifully poised and balanced wine, with a good backbone and lithe body. Look at you go, learning all the terms.
To take advantage of this promotion, and impress your friends by rattling off the above on your Friday night Zoom calls, head here.
If Bastille Day isn’t your thing and you just want to stock up on some wine to keep the winter chill at bay, there’s a special for you, too.
Only for the month of July, you can spice things up with the Shiraz Celebration case.
This one features three bottles of Riebeeksrivier Syrah 2015 and three bottles of Riebeeksrivier Southern Slopes 2015, for only R875 (usually R1 155).
That’s some very nice wine, at a significantly reduced price.
You can shop this special and the entire Rupert range on their website. Once you’ve placed your order, they’ll deliver to your door.
Anthonij Rupert Wyne has also extended their offer of free nationwide delivery on all orders of 12 bottles or more until July 31.
Here’s to your health, and a happy Bastille Day.
