Well done on making it through another week.
Also, chances are you’ve just been paid, and your bank account is looking in decent shape in the lead-up to the debit orders wreaking havoc.
Your man Jeff Bezos doesn’t really have to worry about such matters, and Forbes estimates that he is worth a cool $164,5 billion.
Using the current exchange rate of R17,20 to the US dollar, that’s… well, a number too large for most minds to comprehend.
Who wants to play a fun game? I say ‘fun’, but working out how long it would take Jeff Bezos to earn your salary could be a punch to the gut for many.
Stratos Jet Charters recently designed a calculator that does just this, using data from the Bloomberg Billionaire list to determine how much the five richest people in the world have earned and lost so far in 2020.
Input your own yearly wage, and see how quickly the top billionaires earn that amount of money.
You’ll see that $35 096 is the default option, which is how much the average Amazon employee makes in a year.
Bezos would earn that in 10 seconds.
Enter your salary below if you dare, although remember to convert from rands to dollars, which means dividing your salary by 17,2 (at the time of writing):

Damn, that burn is deep.
Some would say we’re supposed to spare a thought for Bernard Arnault and Warren Buffett, who have lost a great deal of personal wealth in 2020, but I think they’ll be just fine.
Bernard is worth just shy of $106 billion, and Warren $70,5 billion, so nobody is going hungry.
You can see a further breakdown of those five gents above, and how much they earn per month, day, hour, minute, and second here.
Oh well – almost the weekend.
