If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again.
That famous quote has seen many obstacles overcome, although we should add that the rest of the W.C. Fields quote goes “then quit. There’s no point in being a damn fool about it.”
South African magic duo Brendon Peel and Li Lau believe in perseverance, having first made headlines when they performed a daring trick at last year’s National Arts Festival in Makhanda.
That didn’t go to plan, and Li ended up being shot in the head with a crossbow, but they were not to be deterred.
Instead, in April, they appeared on Britain’s Got Talent and wowed audiences and judges with their display, during which nobody was harmed.
Their story is an intriguing one, and caught the attention of Carte Blanche recently.
Derek Watts spoke with Brendon and Li about the trick, and what comes next for the duo as they take their act to the international stage:
