Independence Day is a celebration of freedom, which is why it feels right that TNT Original, Escape from Pretoria, is having its African premiere at 8PM on TNT (DStv channel 137 or GOtv channel 16) on July 4.
Escape from Pretoria stars Daniel Radcliffe and is based on the amazing and meticulous real-life jailbreak of three young political prisoners from Pretoria Central Prison in 1979. Incarcerated in a maximum-security wing, a group led by anti-apartheid activist Tim Jenkin, decide to craft their own keys to freedom.
Jenkin, whose autobiography ‘Inside Out: Escape from Pretoria Prison’ inspired the film, commented, “the movie turned out to be very electrifying and pretty close to the absolute truth!”
Our resident movie critic, Spling, who’s been reviewing film weekly at 2oceansvibe for over a decade, says it’s “an entertaining, gripping and enjoyable thriller”. The South African historical connection will resonate with audiences and Spling says it’s “fresh thanks to Radcliffe’s starring role, Jenkin’s perspective as a white anti-Apartheid activist, and the innovative and resourceful Macgyver escape angle”.
Let’s see the trailer:
Spling will be hosting an online watch party to tie in with the African premiere in which viewers can participate from the comfort of their couch. Described by one fan as the “best movie night in… ever”, ‘Bingeing with Spling’ watch parties are geared around fun and a love of movies.
Grab some popcorn, join the conversation, and follow #BingeingWithSpling on the night for movie trivia, prizes, and live commentary.
Escape from Pretoria’s release marks the start of a slate of TNT Original premieres. Scheduled for the first Saturday of every month, they will feature renowned international casts and are produced by WarnerMedia’s Particular Crowd. Other action-packed and much-anticipated titles include Buffaloed, Human Capital, and Guns Akimbo.
Spling invites you to join him for the premiere of Escape from Pretoria on Saturday, July 4, at 8PM CAT on TNT Africa, DStv channel 137 and GOtv channel 16.
