We’re all for wearing pyjamas while tackling the workday at home, but even we throw on something halfway respectable when meeting up on Zoom for a check-in.
There is a limit to living the holiday. A clean hoodie is the least you can do.
We’ve seen some accidental Zoom fails since the pandemic forced most of the world into remote working.
Jennifer’s live trip to the toilet, and the unfortunate incident of the mistress in the background, come to mind.
Politicians have not been spared, either. Belgium’s Minister of Health, Maggie de Block, didn’t realise that her colleagues could see her picking her nose. It wasn’t pretty.
All of the above were either accidental or the result of a limited understanding of technology.
A recent video meeting in South Africa, on the other hand, was just plain silly.
Per IOL:
One Independent Development Trust (IDT) official was caught on camera topless and wearing only shorts.
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure released a statement on Thursday saying it would like to sincerely apologise to the Joint Portfolio Committee Chairpersons, members and the public at large for an errant behaviour displayed by the IDT official during a joint portfolio virtual meeting of 17 June 2020.
Not ideal. The video below:
Cape Town – While lockdown has resulted in many people wearing pyjamas as work attire, one Independent Development Trust (IDT) official was caught on camera topless and wearing only shorts.

Reports are now being written, investigations are underway, and apologies have been demanded.
The official was caught on video laying on the bed, topless and wearing only shorts while the meeting was in session, a behaviour which the department has strongly condemned “as it undermined the decorum of the meeting”.
The Director-General of the Department, Advocate Sam Vukela, instructed that the official be immediately removed from the meeting and the incident should be viewed in a serious light.
Why the official thought he could get away with this without repercussions remains a mystery.
If you keep an eye on the chap in the top left box, you can see he knows this isn’t going to end well.
