Until around two years ago I didn’t have a credit card, which meant that I could only buy things online if ‘Instant EFT’ was an option.
I also couldn’t take an Uber without having cash on me.
A number of South Africans make use of the cash option when hailing an Uber, but in our current climate, that means exchanging money with Uber drivers. If either you or your driver has COVID-19, this cash in hand system has the potential to increase the chances of transmission.
In other words, a contactless cash transaction solution has become very necessary.
Uber has taken this into account, and launched a new payment system: Uber Cash.
Here’s MyBroadband:
The payment option will allow users to create a payment account which can be preloaded with any amount of money and then used for both its Uber and Uber Eats services.
Users will be able to top up their Uber Cash balance through their Ride account using a credit card, debit card, or EFT. The money in your account doesn’t expire. which means that you can use it whenever you need it.
Uber will also help users to manage their funds and control their budgets.
How it works:
- Open your Uber app
- Go to Payments in your app menu to add funds to your Uber Cash balance
- Select the amount you want to top up and your preferred payment method
- Before requesting a ride or placing an order, change your payment method to Uber Cash
- Choose a destination or add items to the basket
- Request a ride or place an order via Uber Eats
Seasoned Uber users know that you see how much your trip is going to cost before you accept it, so you’ll be able to keep track of things.
When your driver arrives, make sure he or she is wearing a mask, and the same goes for you.
Safe, happy, and contactless travelling.
