Following a media briefing this afternoon by co-operative governance and traditional affairs minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, we now have some clarity regarding certain alert level 3 regulations.
We may as well get the basics out of the way, because you came to find out when you can buy booze.
The full regulations regarding liquor sales have not been released, but we do know the following:
In addition, this from Business Insider SA:
Any place that had a licence to sell alcohol before lockdown – whether for off-premises consumption or at the premises – will be allowed to sell booze, the draft regulations say.
But there will be no on-premises consumption.
That effectively turns bars, restaurants (which had alcohol licences) and taverns into liquor stores.
Further rules on how, exactly, they must manage sales, are still to come.
If you have ordered liquor online, it will need to be delivered between 9AM and 5PM from Monday to Thursday only.
With regards to exercise, whilst it was assumed that all time restrictions would be lifted, that is not the case.
Exercise will be allowed between 6AM and 6PM, as long as it is not done in groups, and masks must also be worn.
Yes, must – see here for more.
No mention was made of whether or not the five-kilometre radius to your home still applies, which is a pretty important piece of information.
Journalist Ferial Haffajee reckons that means that limitation has been done away with:
Someone asked about exercise. See 33 (e) – expands hours from 6am to 6pm and the 5km radius is gone with the wind 💨 pic.twitter.com/f4esu62r2l

Hopefully, confirmation on this point will be forthcoming soon.
Sorry, but it’s bad news on the beach and parks front:
Beaches and public parks also remain closed under Level Three. https://t.co/wiJCtZgoiS

You are also not allowed to gather, unless you’re going to a place of worship, an agricultural auction, work, or a non-contact sports match.
